Why bushings are worth sourcing directly

Bushings are small, cheap parts that sell in high volume and wear out on every car. That makes them a steady line for any parts trader, workshop or distributor.

A worn bushing shows up as clunks over bumps, vague steering, vibration at speed and uneven tyre wear. Customers come back for them again and again, across every make and model.

China is one of the main sources of aftermarket bushings. Buying from the factory instead of a trader means better prices, more control over rubber quality, and the option to put your own brand on the box. This guide covers what you need to know before you contact a bushing factory.

What a bushing does, and the main types

A bushing is a rubber or polyurethane cushion between two metal parts of the suspension or drivetrain. It lets parts move in a controlled way while it absorbs vibration and stops metal-on-metal contact (FCP Euro).

Most bushings are named after where they sit:

TypeWhere it sitsWhat it doesTypical wear signs
Control arm bushingBetween the control arm and the frame or subframeControls wheel movement and reduces harshnessClunks over bumps, vague steering, uneven tyre wear
Sway bar (stabilizer) bushingHolds the anti-roll bar to the bodyKeeps the bar in place while it twistsSqueaks or knocks over small bumps
Subframe bushingBetween the subframe and the bodyIsolates the whole suspension from the cabinMore road noise, thuds when accelerating or braking
Trailing arm and link bushingsAt each end of rear arms and linksKeeps rear wheel alignment under loadRear-end wander, tyre wear
Leaf spring bushingIn the eyes and shackles of leaf springs (pickups, vans, trucks)Lets the spring pivotSqueaks and clunks, sagging ride
Shock absorber and strut top bushingAt the top and bottom mounts of shocksStops knocks from the shockKnocking over bumps
Engine and transmission mountsBetween the engine or gearbox and the bodyHolds the powertrain and absorbs its vibrationVibration at idle, clunk when shifting

For a trader, the best sellers are usually control arm, sway bar and leaf spring bushings. They fit many popular models and need replacing often.

Materials: rubber, polyurethane or hydraulic

The material decides who will buy the part. OE-style rubber suits everyday repair; polyurethane suits upgrade and off-road buyers; hydraulic bushings are for modern cars that came with them from the factory.

MaterialStrengthsWeaknessesBest for
Rubber (bonded to a metal sleeve)Quiet, comfortable, no greasing, lowest costFlexes more; breaks down over time from heat, oil and constant movementStandard replacement parts for workshops
PolyurethaneHarder (higher durometer), less flex, sharper handling, resists oil, salt and UV, lasts longerHarsher ride, can squeak, needs grease, costs morePerformance, 4x4 and off-road upgrades
Hydraulic (fluid-filled)Rubber body with fluid chambers that damp vibration, so the bushing can be firmer without losing comfortMore complex and costly; fails by leaking fluidLate-model European and premium cars, engine mounts
Solid or spherical (monoball)Most precise controlPasses almost all vibration to the cabinTrack and motorsport only

When you ask a factory for prices, always state the material and, for rubber or polyurethane, the hardness (Shore A) you need. Two bushings that look the same can behave very differently.

Where bushings are made in China

Three areas stand out for rubber and rubber-to-metal parts. Knowing them helps you judge a supplier's address and spot traders posing as factories.

RegionWhy it matters for bushings
Ningguo, AnhuiA national specialty base for rubber and plastic seals, with more than 450 auto-parts firms. Home of Zhongding Group, a major maker of sealing and anti-vibration parts for global OEMs.
Hengshui and Xingtai, HebeiHebei's leading rubber products makers are concentrated in Hengshui (including the Jingxian rubber and plastic bases) and in Xingtai's Julu and Qinghe counties (Baidu B2B ranking).
Wenzhou and Ruian, ZhejiangA large aftermarket auto-parts hub where many chassis and suspension part makers sit close together. Our Wenzhou data package covers factories in this area.

Our own factory data backs this up: China Factory Guide lists bushing makers in Xingtai and other parts of Hebei, producing Toyota-fit control arm bushings, torque rod bushings for Mercedes-Benz trucks and rubber parts for Volvo trucks.

Tip: big OEM suppliers often have high minimum orders. For aftermarket volumes, mid-sized factories in these regions are usually a better fit.

Part numbers: how to ask for the right bushing

The fastest way to get an accurate quote is to send the OEM part number, not a photo or a description. Chinese aftermarket factories build their catalogs around OEM numbers and cross-reference them to their own codes.

  1. Send the OEM number from the car maker (Toyota, Nissan, Hyundai, Mercedes and so on). Add the vehicle model, years and engine if you have them.
  2. Ask for the cross-reference. The factory should reply with its own code next to your OEM number, plus any other OEM numbers the same part replaces.
  3. Check the dimensions. Ask for inner diameter, outer diameter, length and sleeve type for each part. Compare them with a sample or the OEM drawing.
  4. Group by fitment. One bushing often fits several models. Grouping orders by part rather than by car lowers your cost per piece.
  5. Ask for kits. Many factories sell full control arm or suspension bushing kits for popular pickups and SUVs, which are easier to sell.

Keep a simple sheet of OEM number, factory code, price and MOQ for every supplier. It makes comparing quotes much faster.

Real examples from Chinese factory catalogs

The OEM numbers below come from catalogs of bushing factories in our database, including makers in Xingtai, Hebei. They show how factories list parts, and they are examples only: always confirm fitment with the factory before you order.

Notice the pattern: European premium brands (BMW, Audi, Land Rover, Jaguar) are covered in depth, along with high-volume Japanese models and heavy trucks. Factories often group their catalogs by car make, so ask for the catalog section for the makes you sell.

Truck torque rod bushings: what to check

Heavy-truck torque rod bushings carry far bigger loads than car bushings. One Hebei truck-bushing factory in our database highlights four design points worth asking any supplier about:

  • Forged shaft: the metal core is forged in one piece, which is stronger than a core welded or machined from parts.
  • Spherical core: a ball-shaped centre spreads the load evenly, so the rubber lasts longer.
  • Larger bonding area: more contact between rubber and metal makes the bond more stable.
  • Anti-stripping shape: the core is shaped so the rubber does not peel off the metal under load.

To match a torque rod bushing, the factory needs four measurements: outer diameter, height, hole (bolt) diameter, and the centre distance between the two mounting holes.

Quality checklist before you order

Bushing quality comes down to the rubber compound and how well it is bonded to the metal. Cheap bushings look fine on day one and crack within months. Check these points before you place an order:

  • Certification: Ask for IATF 16949, the automotive quality standard built on ISO 9001 (IATF 16949). ISO 9001 alone is weaker evidence for car parts.
  • Material sheet: Rubber type (natural rubber, EPDM and so on) or polyurethane, and hardness in Shore A.
  • Test reports: Ask for bond-strength, fatigue (durability) and aging test results, and how many cycles the part survived.
  • Samples first: Order samples of your top 5 to 10 part numbers and fit them on real cars before a full order.
  • Dimensions: Measure the samples against the OEM part. A fraction of a millimetre matters for a press fit.
  • Metal parts: Check the sleeve material and anti-rust coating, especially for the Gulf heat and coastal humidity.
  • MOQ and lead time: Ask the minimum order per part number and the production time for repeat orders.
  • Packaging and branding: Neutral boxes or your own brand, with the part number and barcode printed on each box.
  • Factory, not trader: Check that the address, factory photos and business license match. Our listings show the full address and photos for this reason.

FAQ

Are Chinese bushings good quality?

It depends on the factory. Many Chinese factories supply global brands and car makers. Ask for IATF 16949, test reports and samples, and test the samples on real cars before ordering.

Rubber or polyurethane: which should I stock?

Rubber for standard repair work, since most cars leave the factory with rubber bushings. Polyurethane for performance, 4x4 and off-road customers who want firmer handling.

What should I send a factory to get a quote?

The OEM part numbers, vehicle models, quantities per part, material and hardness, and your packaging needs.

Can I sell bushings under my own brand?

Yes. Many factories offer private-label packaging. Ask about the minimum quantity for custom boxes and printing.

How do I know I'm talking to a factory, not a trader?

Check the factory address, photos of the production line, and the business license. Every factory in China Factory Guide comes with its full address and photos.
